Lime Plastering

At Lime Mortar Restorations we have over 20 years experience within the Plastering industry. We specialise in lime plastering and can undertake any job internally or externally. Lime mortars, renders and plasters come in a variety of forms and strengths and we are able to select the correct type and strength for your property.

Damp Surveys

At Lime Mortar Restorations we use our extensive building knowledge,  specialised instruments and common sense to understand, diagnose and treat damp issues. Dampness can be caused in many different ways. High Internal ground levels, faulty guttering and drainage, general building defects, existence of cement pointing, modern paints and modern plasters could all be contributing to damp issues in older properties. Modern damp proofing methods only cover up damp issues and in some cases actually accelerate the deterioration of the building by blocking pores and stopping moisture transportation. A survey undertaken by Lime Mortar Restorations will provide extensive investigation into the causes of damp in your property.

Lime Pointing

At Lime Mortar Restorations we know that stone, bricks and timber need air to keep them dry. In order to do this they need to be set in a mortar that can breath. Lime mortar is the best mortar for this. Cement products are too hard. These products are harder than any stone or brick and will not allow moisture to be released through the substrate.  Damp, brick or stone will lose moisture through it's face. The problem with this is the freeze thaw cycle. Moisture freezes and expands then cracks the brick or stone and damages it. This will leave gaps for damp to penetrate internally. Lime mortar self sacrifices and protects brick or stone for hundreds of years.

Non - Chemical Timber Treatments

At Lime Mortar Restorations we believe in a non chemical approach to treating damp timber issues. We find that timbers in buildings get wet through leaks, high condensation or a lack of free flowing air. If timber gets damp then rot will occur. This can be either wet rot or dry rot both or which are easily treated without the use of harsh chemicals. Damp timber will attract wood boring insects. They will never be attracted to dry timber. Lime Mortar Restorations would dry the timber out, remove the rotten sections, remove any cement, remove any modern paint, remove the cause of damp and provide a guarantee for the works completed.  The best way to keep timber dry is to have free flowing air, breathable lime mortar and a breathable paint or oil.
